Cutting in…

My brain rambles, okay? The things I ponder sometimes would make anyone tilt their head in confusion like the RCA dog, but today it’s about texturing. Bear with me.

Okay, there’s this thing I think about every morning as I’m putting on my makeup before work. Particularly eyeliner.

“I hate cutting in.”

I don’t know if you’ve done a lot of room painting, but our whole house has been in some state of remodel over the years, and if your situation ends up anything like mine, your hubby gets to do the big satisfying rolling of the walls while you get to do the intricate part. The really annoying taking of a tiny brush and cutting in carefully next to the trim and the crown moulding. Which in itself would be fine, except our walls aren’t smooth. We have a heavy-stomped texture on the walls that makes cutting in with a straight line more like a liar taking a polygraph. It’s all over the place. Try making that look neat and straight!

So, what does that have to do with eyeliner?

Because that’s what I feel like I’m doing these days–trying to cut in a straight line on a surface that USED to be smooth, but now resembles a textured wall. I’m textured! With a heavy stomp! And making that line straight is getting harder and harder to pull off! And I hate cutting in!

Who feels my pain? 🙂

It’s my Birthday! Gimme some Yoga! I mean a Blizzard…

Hello and good morning! And it is a good morning, as mornings go, because I’ve hit a number today. One of those “9” numbers that precede a milestone age, like 20 or 30 or 40. Or 50. Yes…today I’m 49. 🙂

Once upon a time, I probably wouldn’t admit that, or rally my own birthday, but hey…I’ve earned it! I’ve been on this earth for 49 years, and sometimes that’s hard to believe! I can remember things from when I was 5. My first sweet little boyfriend heartbreak at 10. Spreading my new little teenage wings at 14 and going places my mom didn’t know I was going. My 16th birthday party. Moving away from home at 20. The birth of my daughter at 27. Moving back home at 33. And falling in love for good at 36.

So much life behind me, and it’s hard to believe it’s all BEHIND me. Other times, I feel every one of those years. LOL. Lately, I feel way more than I should, and I know I’ve let a few things get a little too “relaxed”, so I have a plan for this year. This is the year to get healthy. Not crazy, lose my mind kind of healthy, but just working on things. Get my stamina and my energy back. Eat better. Be physical. Do that cardio. Don’t deny myself the yummy things, but don’t indulge every single night, either. 🙂 Hitting 50 is going to mess with me next year, I know that, and I don’t want to feel old or frumpy when I get there. I want to hit that big number 50 next year with a healthier me, thinking it’s the best age ever. #HealthyBy50 is my hashtag for the year.

I’ve started back at the gym, and added yoga.

And for the record, that will never be me, and if it is, call an ambulance because I’ve broken everything. This one is more my speed, although by the time we reach this point at the end of the class, I’m never feeling this serene or looking this good. If I looked like this, I wouldn’t need this #HealthyBy50 plan. LOL.

So that’s my thoughts on this day. And for the record…no, I’m not going to the gym today. I’m celebrating hopefully tonight after work (yeah, I have to work, boo!) with a Turtle Pecan Cluster Blizzard from Dairy Queen. 🙂

About the coffee…

It’s Saturday, y’all, and I’m sitting here in my rocker/recliner, sipping my favorite brew…and wondering what makes this my favorite brew? It’s nothing special. Folgers regular blend, with Coffeemate lite creamer and a smidgeon of Coffeemate Hazelnut. The regular creamer to make it creamy and the tiny bit of Hazelnut to give it a twist. Sometimes I do Amaretto instead of Hazelnut, or Caramel, but I don’t like my daily coffee to be sweet. Just a little flavored. Nothing overboard.

Now, all that being said, I love Starbucks. And when I go there I either get a vanilla latte with a shot of caramel, or just a vanilla latte, and over the Christmas holidays there was a specialty flavor called Chestnut Praline that was oh. my. goodness. Nutty and sweet and amazing. So I like sweet as a treat, but I couldn’t do that every morning.

What is your coffee preference, and what makes it your favorite?

Oh….and this is my cup of the day. My son bought it for me on a school band trip to Disney World seven years ago.

Christmas Crack (yes…it’s that good)

My nephew brags that I’m his crack dealer, and I proudly take a bow. Christmas Crack, that is. And it is truly addicting and amazing. All you need is nuts and chocolate and a crockpot. 🙂 And these are my ingredients, but you can substitute any nuts you like and any type of chocolate chips you like. This has varied from the original that I got the first time, so feel free to tweak it for you!

16 oz jar of peanuts (salted or unsalted)

pkg of pecans halves, walnuts, whatever nuts you’d like (I added for the nutty freaks around here)

12 oz bag semi-sweet chocolate chips

12 oz bag milk chocolate chips

12 oz bag peanut butter chips

12 oz bag dark chocolate chips (I added this because I love dark chocolate)

12 oz bag Heath chocolate chips (I do this for my hubby who loves Heath bars)

2) 1 lb pkgs of chocolate almond bark

Layer ingredients in a large crockpot (starting with peanuts). Layer in nuts every so often to keep the ratio good. For my family, the more nuts, the better. Turn the heat on low, cover with lid, and leave sitting for 2 hours. Then remove lid and stir everything to combine. Replace lid and leave sitting for another 30 minutes. Stir again and then spoon mixture onto wax paper or aluminum foil (I learned the hard way not to put directly on a plate…way more work than is necessary). Allow to harden for at least one hour.

EAT!!!
